1997 - 1999
The GF/GW platform
proved to be the last generation of the long running
Mazda 626, when it was replaced with the award winning
GG Mazda6. This generation of the Mazda 626,
became more mainstream, losing the flair, and extravagance
of earlier models. In a way, the Mazda 626 was repositioned
with the base price significantly cheaper than the
GE series, from $32,870 in August 1997 for a GE, to
$27,270 in September 1997 for a GF model.

From Wikipedia.
'The last Telstar, based on the GF platform, was released
in 1997, but was only sold in Japan, as Ford was now
marketing the Mondeo in the Asian-Pacific region.
The Telstar was dropped by Ford of Japan in 1999,
as the company sought to differentiate itself from
Mazda by concentrating on European and American Ford
models.'
