The facelifted
FG X Ford Falcon replaced the 2011 FG MkII Falcon model in November
2014 with mostly cosmetic changes to update
the model.
This model marked
the end of the Ford Falcon model after being in production since
1960. Production of the Falcon discontinued on 7 October 2016.
The model was not replaced by any other specific global Ford
model, with the Ford Mondeo taking the role as the largest passenger
vehicle and the Ford Mustang as the performance model in the
Ford Australia range.

the XR8 was stopped with the release of the limited edition

Falcon Production
FG X Ford Falcon production finished
on Friday 7 October 2016, marking the end of Ford production
in Australia after 91 years. A total of 4,356,628 Ford cars
wre manufactured by Ford in Australia. The final car to roll
down the Broadmeadows factory line was a kinetic blue FG X Ford
Falcon XR6 at 9:30AM on 7 October 2016. This car was kept by
Ford Australia along with the final FG X Ford Falcon Ute and
the final SZ MkII Territory (the penultimate car down the production
line).
The last Falcon is number 3,578,689,
a number that includes sedans, wagons, utes and panel vans built
over more than 56 years of production, making the Falcon Australias
longest running nameplate.
Total Falcon passenger cars built (sedan and wagon): 3,005,880.
Total Falcon commercial vehicles built (ute and van): 572,809
Total Falcon production (excluding Fairlane and LTD): 3,578,689
The final four locally produced
saleable Fords (with compliance plates) a kinetic blue Falcon
XR6, a lightning strike silver Territory Titanium diesel, a
winter white Falcon XR6 Sprint (no.500/500) and a smoke grey
XR6 Turbo ute were sold at auction (XR6: $81,500, Territory:
$68,500, XR6 Sprint: $122,000, XR6 Turbo ute: $81,000)
Ute
Production
Production of the
Falcon ute ended on 29 July 2016. The final Ford Falcon Ute
is a white XR6, and it rolled off the Broadmeadows production
line just before 3pm. The vehicle will be retained by Ford Australia.
The Ford Falcon
ute commenced production with the XK model in 1961. Ford made
about 26,000 XK, XL, XM and XP utes up to August 1966. Ford
then produced about 48,000 second-generation Falcon Utes (XR,
XT, XW and XY models) through to 1972, with the final XY also
coming in four-wheel drive, and another 48,000 third-generation
utes (XA-XC models) out to May 1979. The fourth-generation range
lasted until May 1999, with about 85,000 utes produced up to
March 1993 (encompassing the XD through to the XF Mk II), and
46,000 units of production of the XG-XH MKII lasting until May
1999. The sixth-generation range (AU through to BF Mk II) lasted
to April 2008, with about 154,000 units made. The final Falcon
Ute generation, (FG-FG X) lasted eight years, with just 52,000
made.

Supercars
The FG X Falcon was used by teams
running Fords in the Supercars championship in the 2015 - 2018
seasons. Mark Winterbottom won the 2015 season in the #5 Prodrive
Racing Australia FG X Falcon and Scott McLaughlin won the 2018
season in the #17 DJR Team Penske FG X Falcon.

Racing Australia (PRA) / Tickford Racing
For
the 2015 International V8 Supercars Championship, PRA raced
three FG X Falcons, #5 Mark Winterbottom (Pepsi Max), #6 Chaz
Mostert (Pepsi Max) and #55 David Reynolds (The Bottle-O) Mark
Winterbottom won the 2015 International V8 Supercar championship
with Mostert and Reynolds finishing 11th (injury) and 3rd respectively.
For the 2016 International V8 Supercars Championship, PRA raced
three FG X Falcons, #1 Mark Winterbottom (The Bottle-O), #6
Cameron Waters (Monster Energy) and #55 Chaz Mostert (Super
Cheap Auto) who finished the season 6th, 19th and 7th respectively.
For the 2017 Supercars Championship, the PRA team expanded to
race 4 FG Xs; #5 Mark Winterbottom (The Bottle-O), #6 Cameron
Waters (Monster Energy), #55 Chaz Mostert (Super Cheap Auto)
and #56 Jason Bright (Mega Fuels), who finished the season 6th,

For
the 2018 Supercars Chamipionship, the last in the FG X Falcon,
PRA changed its name to Tickford Racing and raced 4 racecars;
#5 Mark Winterbottom (The Bottle-O), #6 Cameron Waters (Monster
Energy), #55 Chaz Mostert (Super Cheap Auto) and #56 Richie
Stanaway (Mega Fuels), who in a poor season for the team finished
the season 12th, 16th, 6th and 25th respectively. Click to go

Johnson Racing (DJR) Team Penske
For
the 2015 International V8 Supercars Championship, DJR Team Penske
scaled back its team to one new FG X Falcon, #17 Marcos Ambrose/Scott
Pye with rotating sponsorship, Scott finishing 19th. For the
2016 International V8 Supercars Championship, DJR Team Penske
raced two FG X Falcons, #12 Fabian Coulthard and #17 Scott Pye
maintaining the rotating sponsorship, who finished 12th and
15th respectively. For the 2017 Supercars season, the team became
the Shell V-Power Racing Team with #12 Fabian Coulthard and
#17 Scott McLaughlin. Scott McLaughlin unfairly lost the championship
in the last race, coming 2nd with Fabian in 3rd. The Shell V-Power
Racing Team took the 2017 Supercar Teams' Championship. The
2018 Supercars Championship was the last in an FG X for DJR
Team Penske. Scott McLaughlin won the 2018 season in fitting
farewell for the Falcon, and Fabian came 9th. Click to go to
