GG
October 2002
- August 2005
The
2002 Mazda6, was introduced in October 2002,
to replace the long running Mazda 626, namely the
GF model. In the tradition of previous Mazda 626 models,
different platform codes were used sedan/ hatch and
wagon, with this shape being designated GG (sedan,
hatch) and GY (wagon). The Mazda6 was a breath
of fresh air, and marked the return of the stylish
Mazda, and mid-sized car. "Japan's finest ever
mid-sizer."

The engine
standard across the current range of the 2002 Mazda6,
is the 2261cc doch, 16V, Longitudinal 4-cylinder engine,
with max. power of 122kW, and Max. Torque of 207Nm
The 6's
engine is excellent. A strong performer when given
the pedal, the 2.3-litre MZR is immensely tractable
at low speeds, and a free-revving delight at the upper
reaches of its 7200 rpm rev range. The engine sounds
infectiously zesty too, with a faint exhaust burble.
