The first facelift to the Magna came with the TN Mitsubishi Magna, introduced in April 1987 replacing the TM model. The TN model introduced the sporty Elanté sedan in June 1988 and the first Mitsubishi Magna wagon was introduced in June 1987. The model brought cosmetic changes with a revised rear end (number plated moved to the bar and a red facia between the taillights) and 2 distinct grilles (the GLX, Executive and Elante all had a mailbox grille while the SE and Elite had a fancy bar grille).

The model also introduced the EFI engine (ECI Multi Astron II) to be sold alongside the existing Astron II carburettor model.. Manual and Auto were avaliable in GLX, SE and Elante models while Executive and Elite were Auto only. About 60% of TN models were the Executive model. The TN was replaced by the TP Magna model in June 1987.
